Initial Thoughts on Vatican document “Infinite Dignity”

New Vatican document “Infinite Dignity” is here. My initial reaction is that clarification is needed on how finite human nature can have infinite anything:

Human dignity is infinite in the sense that it is unlimited by circumstances or even by our sins; we are each and all created in the image and likeness of God.

Human dignity is infinite also in the sense that universal salvific will of God seeks our eternal salvation in Christ, and so our connection to the infinite God (the only infinite being) allows us to share in the infinite dignity of God, which alone is fully infinite. God seeks the salvation of even the most sinful human persons, so until and unless they are lost to eternal punishment, they have this connection to the infinite dignity of God.

Things are only good by relation to God, who is the only being Good by His very nature, infinitely and eternally. Things are only infinite or eternal due to the will of God and their relation to God.

St. Thomas Aquinas:
“Things other than God can be relatively infinite, but not absolutely infinite.”

My recent tweet on X:
The taking of any human life is always a deprivation, contrary to the dignity of each person as made in the image of God. Even when morally permissible, this loss violates the highest ideals of the Gospel. So while the commandment is Thou shalt not murder, the ideal is Thou shalt not kill. A society with no exceedingly grave sins would have no death penalty. So while the death penalty is not intrinsically evil, it only occurs due to grave disorders in society and individual behaviors. This is also the case with just war, and other moral and lawful killings, such as law enforcement or self-defense. What is morally permissible, is not necessarily in full accord with human dignity and the ideals of the Gospel to be perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect.

I have not read the document yet so can only speculate.
Could it be connected to God’s death for us? God, who is infinite, died for us so our price is an infinite price? Therefore there is some sort of connection to our dignity and worth?
    I don’t know.

Ths is going to sound awful, but does this Papacy generate an unusual number of documents compared to prior ones, or do we simply notice these more due to the Internet?

At at least some level, these are fatiguing for the Faithful as they seem to be arriving so frequently, and in addition, that causes them to be ignored by at least some people. I’m not in the Anti Francis camp at all, but even I am weary of the seeming volume of these communications and with the Synod going on as a process in the background, it’s means they’re all going to receive hyper interpretation.

It might be partially that the internet magnifies all controversies. Then these documents receive far more scrutiny than in pre-internet times.
