If you would like to do something important and pleasing to God for the Year of Faith (which begins 11 Oct 2012), learn the basic principles of Catholic ethics. I’ve covered many of these principles in past posts in this blog. See my past posts on the three fonts of morality, the principle of cooperation with evil, the principle of double effect, etc.

Most Catholics do not understand the most basic principles of ethics taught by the Roman Catholic Magisterium. Most devout Catholics who go to Mass and Confession regularly, do not understand the basic principles of ethics. Many lay teachers and leaders in the Church do not understand the basic principles of ethics. The faithful are poorly catechized, and this must change during the Year of Faith.
Otherwise, the Year of Faith will be ironic, a year when people talk about faith, but do not know, believe, and live that faith. You cannot be faithful to the teachings of the Magisterium, unless you know what those teachings are. And ethics is the least well understood and yet most important part of the Catholic Faith.
